Every business owner wants to have the highest possible level of security for their premises and their stock. Without doubt cctv systems are the best way to accomplish the desired level of security, but there are ways to enhance it.
One of the most valuable partners in any security system are security lights, which play no small role in making sure that cameras catch the clearest possible footage of prospective intruders, both inside and outside a retail, manufacturing or other commercial property.
And with more than one light required to complete a security lighting system, and because of the nature of their purpose, the need for a control box is high. That is why such accessory products as the gjd lighting controller are available.
Of course, lights actually play a dual role on premises. The most obvious is that they provide a way of illuminating dark places, either in corridors and store rooms indoors, or outdoors to ensure one can see ahead of themselves around the building, particularly any passages on the side. In this respect, they serve a safety purpose.
Typically, movement is detected by the inbuilt motion sensors and cause the light to turn on. When movement has failed to be detected for a sustained period of time, perhaps for just a minute, the light will automatically turn off.
However, as part of any security system, they clearly serve a valuable role as a deterrent. Intruders do not like to be seen, and will stay in the darkened areas around a building, generally seeking entry through a side or rear door or window. Should a light suddenly turn on, they are almost certain to abandon their attempts to gain entry and flee.
The technology involved in modern security lighting is high tech, with the issues that had caused false alarms in the past now largely having been dealt with. For example, outdoor lights could sometimes come on, even during the day time, because of over sensitivity to sunlight and its ability to damage sensors.
Now, though, sensors built into the light are protected by a white light filter, while the electronics in the light are also protected from UV light and moisture. Also, the scope of the area covered by the sensor is more effectively controlled, with the inclusion of vertical curtains to prevent movement in irrelevant areas literally being caught by the corner of its eye.
A key to the rise of lighting as a part of security systems has been the development of passive infra red detectors, better known as pir detectors. Without these the lights themselves would be unable to function effectively, as it is these devices that detect movement in the dark.
Detectors can be set to react to movement within a certain distance, even as far as 35 metres, which aids many exterior security systems in providing an impressive amount of security in places like warehouse loading bays and yards. They can also be used indoors in large warehouses or stock rooms, or even on factory floors.
Of course, more than one light is needed if a premises or complex is to be adequately protected, and this can cause some complication. In order to ensure all lights in a system are properly monitored they are connected to a central lighting controller. The most commonly used, and indeed most highly regarded, controllers are amongst the gjd lighting controller range.
In essence, a controller is required to ensure that there is sufficient power released to the light when motion is detected. The basic controllers can handle one or two lights, but more advanced controllers can handle four or more zones. Often, as many as 1500 watts of power is made available to the lights in an instant, while a warning tone is usually also set off.
Having so much light appearing so suddenly can shock an intruder, which adds to the desirability the feature and ensures that, as part of any security system, security lights are seen to play an active and valuable role in enhancing the overall efficiency of the system.
And although most modern cctv systems include pir detectors to set off the alarm, the advantages of having such sensors set off lights in a yard, down the side of a building or even in a delivery yard, are clear.
