Parenting begins with the rapport that you have with your kids and a positive relationship that will allow you to parent them with success. Parenting is not an easy job and can be very demanding. We work, sometimes multiple jobs, and a lot of times when we are home all we want is peace and quiet. Though you may not have much energy left, it takes some effort to be a positive role model. Our love for our children is why we do what we do and go through the challenges that come before us. By forming a positive relationship with our kids, with love, we can give them the best gift of all.
While every age has its positive and negative traits, many parents find that a toddler acting out is one of the hardest things of all to deal with. If you are out in public with your children and they need to be disciplined, then first you should find a way to do it immediately. It is best to do this rather than waiting to get home, or even worse, deciding to ignore it because you are out in public. At the same time, you don?t want to discipline the kids in front of others, so take them to a private area.
Repeated disciplining of children in an open manner for all to see can have serious consequences on their self esteem. Embarrassing children in such a manner is not good for them in the long run, and won?t improve their behavior. The teen years will surely test the mettle of any parent, and that seems to be an universal experience. There is so much going on in their minds and bodies, and of course nature is prepping them to become independent adults. Avoid lectures at all times, even if you feel the need to, because the strategy typically does not work on teenagers at all. Start talking to your kids more so that you can connect to them when difficulties happen. The secret is to simply talk to them like an adult would talk to a kid at school. Think of the times that you have been lectured by your boss and how it felt inside. Working with teenagers requires a specific type of strategy that, when done right, will build a relationship and not break it.
Everybody is stronger in certain aspects of life than in others. Everyone knows this, and there?s no escaping it. This is something that you should always keep in mind when you think of your kids.
Don?t expect them to be perfect in every way, but be accepting of who they really are. It can have a very detrimental impact on a child?s self esteem if you try to turn them into something that they?re not. Often times it is this kind of situation that can be taken on into the child?s mind and surface in different forms as an adult. So be very sure your expectations for your children are in line with their strengths and weaknesses.
Parenting is about loving your children, yet at the same time, always being aware that they will test you from time to time as they grow up. The easiest way to get through these difficult moments is to stay calm and relaxed.
