X-Men Origins: Wolverine should be wiped from history and all copies of it should be buried next to the Atari E.T. landfill.? The filmmakers behind the sequel, The Wolverine, probably aren?t willing to go that far, but they seem to agree that it?s best to leave Origins in the past and let their new film stand on its own.? We?ve already seen from set photos that the movie will be breaking away from the previous ?X-Men films in terms of Wolverine?s look, but Hugh Jackman has now confirmed earlier reports on how The Wolverine will stand apart from the awful 2009 spin-off.
Hit the jump for more.? The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, and Rila Fukushima.? The Wolverine opens July 26, 2013.
Speaking to Total Film [via the Coventry Telegraph], Jackman says:
?We?ve deliberately not called it Wolverine 2 because we want it to be placed and feel like a standalone picture.?
?With an all-new cast and setting it in Japan, it?s going to give us a whole new visual aesthetic.?
?The approach to character means we won?t be overloaded with mutants and teams and the like, so it?ll be more character-based. I think in many ways it will feel like a completely different X-Men film.?
Wolverine is an odd character since he?s a lone wolf who?s always drawn into a team dynamic (he?s practically their leader in the first X-Men).? It?s looking like The Wolverine will go back to the loner side of the character when it comes to fighting against bad guys.? It?s a fresh take when it comes to the movies, and I?m eager to see what director James Mangold will do with it.
